Junior Reporter: The Excellent Exotic Eats Project

By Mariana May 11, 2021

As most of us know, fruits and vegetables are an essential part of our diet. We are all familiar with strawberries, grapes, tomatoes, and onions, yes? We all know their taste, their benefits, and some dishes we could include them in, correct? Well, are you familiar with pitaya, cubanelle pepper, and artichoke? These are just some of which that we might consider exotic. “Exotic” is an adjective for things that may seem foreign, or different, to us. Out of pitaya, cubanelle pepper, and artichoke, the pitaya — also known as dragon fruit — may be the most exotic.

Now, why am I compelling on these foods?

Recently, my father and I began a project in which we discover exotic fruits and vegetables, purchase them, prepare a research paper on them, and create a meal with them. We began with pitaya, cubanelle pepper, and artichoke. As we researched with credible sources, we mainly looked for the foods’ origin and benefits. If you would like to know more, I recommend you research these exotic foods on your own for a thrilling experience. I was the one who created the research presentation, and my father was the one who made the dishes. This project had many advantages, such as the fact that all fruits and vegetables are healthy. In addition, we learn and try something new. I titled the activity The Excellent Exotic Eats Project.

In my opinion, this project is informative, entertaining, and delicious. My favorite exotic food so far has to be the pitaya. This project is a family-friendly activity that can  be beneficial in many ways. My favorite part of the project is the research; the fun facts and health benefits of these foods will never cease to amaze me. My father and I just began this project, yet I cannot wait to discover more exotic fruits and vegetables.

I recommend The Excellent Exotic Eats Project to those who like fruits, vegetables, nutrition, trying new things, cooking, and researching. Thank you for reading this article. This is Junior Reporter Mariana B., signing off.
