Meet Lindsay!
I had longed to live in South Florida ever since my tropical ecosystem studies in high school. When I got the chance in 2016, I jumped on it!
As a little girl growing up in coastal New England, I was the outdoorsy type, always exploring the neighborhood woods, building forts, spending long days at the beach, and scoping out the tidal pools for critters. In high school, I joined a school trip to Costa Rica with my biology class and it was life-changing. Being in the tropics, hiking to remote places, watching a leatherback sea turtle lay its eggs on the beach at night, sleeping in bug nets in tree canopies with monkeys, harvesting food from the community garden in a self-sustainable village and having home-cooked meals with native Costa Ricans, I could NOT wait to go back. I knew I wanted to study environmental science in college and after my freshman year at Colgate University, I spent a summer abroad in Costa Rica studying tree cover and forest growth in a biological preserve while diving into other tropical ecosystems.
My next of many adventures would be a semester abroad in Southeastern Australia studying water resource and environmental justice issues. I have always been invested in finding ways to live more sustainably with our environment because we depend on it. Helping others understand that, too, led me to work for environmental education organizations in my home city of Boston, in Washington, D.C., and now in South Florida where I am the Marketing Specialist for Youth Environmental Alliance. I am excited to share our team’s knowledge of the local ecology with all of you, and hope you’ll explore some of the classes we have to offer (both in-person and virtually)!
