Junior Reporter: A Trip to the NSU Art Museum

Arabella

April 9, 2021

Today I went to the NSU Art Museum! On the way there, I read a book (as usual). When my mom and I got there, there were two wish trees out in front of the building. You could write your wish on a piece of paper that the museum provides, and then tie it to the tree. When we walked inside, I instantly recognized it as an art museum. It looked like an everyday one, with paintings and sculptures. But when we walked into one of the exhibits, boy did my opinion change!

There were designer dresses by a Chinese-American woman, Anna Sui. These outfits were surely one-of-a-kind, with combined cultures, many different materials, and beautiful patterns. In one room, they had her makeup and perfume. There was even a TV showing an old-time fashion show of people strutting along in her line of couture (Extreme fashion)!

Upstairs, (yes, Anna Sui’s designer outfits filled almost the whole downstairs!) there was a painting across the whole wall titled, “Lemme Walk Across the Room.” Also, in the middle of the room, there was a sculpture-like thing made out of recyclable materials by Pablo Cano, and on the left side of the room, a clothesline with two shirts on it. This was a one-room exhibit by Eric N. Mack.

In another area upstairs, there was a room of photos of all of the same guy dressed in costumes. He looked so different from photo to photo! Also, I felt like I was watching, ‘The Masked Singer’ because there were many out-of-place things in every photo (like wacky wigs, a fencing sword, and even a pomegranate!).

In yet another exhibit, there were multiple paintings by many different artists, some famous, some not. All of the paintings filled up around ten rooms, and there was another installation in progress! My favorite painting was a swirly one that had pieces of paper glued on and had pretty colors like pink and purple.

Just so you know, I did not include all of the exhibits in my report of the NSU Art Museum, so you’ll have to go there to find out! Each and every part of the museum was unique and different, by brilliant artists, and very lively and colorful. For me, it felt like every painting had a life, it’s true, because every stroke of the artist’s paintbrush, every flick of a pencil, has brought it to this world.

I hope you enjoyed my report, and please go check out the NSU Art Museum!
